Broadway Seafood & Sushi

My co-worker and I wanted a change of scenery for lunch, so we hopped onto the 99 B-line from UBC and got off at Macdonald St to see what's around.  We spotted Broadway Sushi, a hole-in-the-wall type restaurant, and saw that the prices were pretty darn cheap, so we decided to revisit that next time.

That next time was just last week.  They have a 5% off your order if you call in an hour early for pick-up.  We called at 11:45am for 1:00pm pick-up, and ordered Combo 1 and Spicy Combo.  Combo 1 included: a Rainbow roll (described as a California roll with tuna, salmon and shrimp on top), a House roll (think California roll with egg and salmon), and a miso soup.  The Spicy Combo included: spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, spicy scallop roll, and miso soup. This is the first time I've seen "fillers" (i.e. cucumber) in a scallop roll.

I popped one of the Rainbow rolls in my mouth and instantly regretted it.  The rice was overly moist and mushy, and had no vinegar taste at all. The crab meat was basically stuck into the roll and cut up with the pieces and had no taste.  The entire roll tasted bland.  Cucumber was used instead of avocado.  Soy sauce and wasabi were heavily relied on.  The House roll had a little bit more taste.  However the rice was also mushy.  In fact, all the rice used was mushy and tasteless.  The spicy rolls were a bit more palatable because of the spicy sauce, but all in all, it was not an enjoyable meal.  I am used to miso soup that is overly salty, but this miso soup tasted like water.  I guess they did us a favour when they gave us a mini sized version.  This would be a prime example of "you get what you pay for".  The grand total was $18.90 CAD, with the 5% discount. Even so, we paid too much for this! What a big disappointment :((  Do yourself a favour and don't go.
