... it's been a while.
Ever since graduation/convocation at UBC, I've been enjoying the no-midterm, no-finals moments (sorry for those who are in the midst of exams atm, good luck ^.~). There is this website that UBC currently uses for material that is uploaded for each registered course. Some courses have assessments, or mini quizzes. For my current job as a lab tech, I must complete the Biosafety course, and the Chemical Safety course, just for administrative purposes. It has been so long since I had to study for anything, that I ended up not being productive whatsoever. I tried staying on campus to read, coffee shop, at home, nothing worked.

Savings account
So. will come back to add more details to this, as I currently have a biosafety exam to study for at the moment =/
My boyfriend and I decided to create a joint savings account, and after much researching on the interwebs (15 minutes), we decided on INGDirect. It seems like a pretty good bank, good interest rates, no opening charges or anything. Just like a free storage space. Just wanted to share this right now, as there's a holiday promotion going on. If you join using a user's "orange key" (referral code, I'd say), you get a $25 bonus added to your account after your initial deposit of $100 or more. Furthermore, they add $50 extra for new clients.
I'll probably update after a few months and see how it goes. If you'd like to grab the offer, here's my orange key.
Good luck~

Beginning of a school year...
... and I'm not part of it, woohoo! Graduate of May 2012 here~
I used to get excited on Imagine Day at UBC, NOT because of school starting, but because of the freebies I usually collect as I trek through all the booths.
But today, I felt like it wasn't worth the sweating and plowing through hundreds of other equally excited students grabbing for freebies. In fact, I got a headache from all the noise. Oh noes, I'm getting old.. and it's only been half a year D:

Ninja'd.
It was a chill Sunday night, and my boyfriend and I were playing a Naruto game on the X box. I pretty much button-mashed through the whole game, and managed to do some cool combos somehow, but ultimately failed. Fast-forward to when he got home and called me. He asked me, judging from his performance at the Naruto game, whether he would be a good ninja. Being the natural instigator that I am, I said, no...

Birthday blues [?]
I had my birthday a month ago in February. Oh man, I'm so old ): I don't know about you, but I always dread the day my birthday approaches. It's not a vain thing, where I worry about getting older and getting more wrinkles etc. How do I explain it without sounding like a lunatic? I'll try anyways.
Pitiful, depressed, hopeless, are among the emotions I feel. Perhaps, because I'm afraid to find out if anyone (or no one) at all remembers. And yet, I feel like I shouldn't feel that way at all, because it's being self-centered, which I don't like. It's not the gifts or parties that I look for, but the affirmation that the people I call "friends" are really my friends. Just a simple greeting, whether in person, by phone/text, e-mail - doesn't matter the form, really- of acknowledging the day that's supposed to be special. Does anyone else feel that way, or am I just being weird?

Asian pears, eye diseases, etc
Random update! I am still sick with the flu (or whatever it is). Funny thing is (or not), everyone else around me seems to be sick with the same symptoms. When I got sick two days prior to returning to Vancouver, I thought I had malaria or something =_=
Currently trying this steamed pear concoction that I saw on a Korean reality show "We Got Married." Searched around the interwebs for the recipe and stumbled upon this one.
Made one earlier in the week and hand-delivered it to boyfriend's workplace (I got him sick, too...) and he claimed that it was very soothing, and that he ate all the ginger. I'm currently going through my own right now... and it's too spicy o_o
Anyway, popped on the EOS Adult grey contacts that I recently bought online. The first thing I noticed was that the left one was noticeably whiter [?] than the right one. Did I get defective ones? Hmm...
In natural lighting, it looks like my left eye has some disease. It also looks more purple or blue than grey. I find that to balance this icy color, it's best to apply dark liner around the eyes, otherwise the lightness of the color doesn't go well against my skin tone. I don't know, what do you think?
Segway segway segway segway segway segway segway segway segway segway segway
I believe that effective and sincere attempt at communication is what holds family members together. You cannot expect your family to just "work" and get along if you have not invested in any time or effort. Living through this century, where almost every household owns at least a computer with working internet/video game console, it is much more difficult to push yourself off these machines to personally connect with people, compared to when these machines were not around. I find it a little bit depressing that people would game online for hours and hours, rather than fulfilling that promised date with a friend or sibling. I'm not saying gaming is bad, however, it shouldn't be the reason behind broken promises and angry lashes against, say, an innocent sister who just asked if you wanted ice cream. You know what I'm talking about, right?
Har har. thank goodness I'm not in English classes anymore. My writing cannot possibly get any worse...? ;)

Beautiful Manila & Boracay
Hello! Back and sort of recovered from jet lag from the Philippines trip.
I went away for two weeks with the boyfriend. The plane ride was super long; thank goodness for the stopover at Narita. That marked my first time in Japan! I got so excited that we tried to stuff as much Japanese food as we could in our stomach. The ramen wasn't too good, and the omurice was blah ): BUT at one of the shops in terminal 2 (not the main terminal), we found the oh so yummy Haagen Dazs Green tea classic Crispy Sandwich. It's basically a green tea ice cream sandwich. Upon purchase, I thought that the wafer would be soggy or stale, but it was most definitely not.

Cuz I'm leaving, on a jet plane...
Will be back on the 28th. Where am I going? To the Philippines! It will be my first time in a tropical country. But as a person who gets highly irritated in hot weather, can I enjoy my two weeks there? I leave in three days and haven't even pulled out my luggage yet.
My friends keep telling me to take photos of all the food and street food. I supposed I should bring some TUMS in case I get sick? I ate raw fish that was left out of the fridge for 6+ hours earlier... feeling OK still. I must have stomach of steel LOL =_=. Got my Tetanus, Hep A-C shots already from prior job working at a senior hospital (yay!), and booked my dental & wisdom tooth removal appointments. I feel very accomplished today.
Oh, and I also picked up my postage package before heading off to work. They were the circle lenses I ordered in mid-December 2011:

Time
When you live in a bustling busy city like Vancouver, you may often forget that it does not require a lot of money and planning in order for you to have fun. If you take the time to step back, just for a moment, you might be able to see why and how it is so.
After church service, the boyfriend and I had five hours to "kill" before dinner plans with friends. Guess what we ended up doing for those five hours? Vegetate in front of the T.V. We're usually busy with school/work Monday through Fridays every week, and so rarely get to see each other. Because of that, we save our weekends to do "exciting" things. To be honest, I think we both needed that chillaxing afternoon. Sherlock Holmes and The Lion King were on, one after the other, lucky for us.
After the night ended, with dinner and all, the boyfriend thanked me for my time and that he had fun, even if it just being couch potatoes for five hours. I then suggested something about it "being a waste of time," to which he said that people often take these little things for granted. What do we live for, really?
Left me thinking (though unconsciously, until now). I can see what he means now. How we use our time and how we prioritize things in life lead to the rationale on how we define "waste of time." He cherishes the time we spend together, so it was not time wasted, regardless of how we spent it. It's not like I didn't enjoy the vegetating on the couch for five hours, but in my mind somewhere I thought that maybe there could've been "better" ways to spend the time. I mean, we're not getting any younger.
Could be the Asian upbringing, though. Hmm... just something to think about.
Happy January, everyone (: Bloated on sushi.
P.S. My friend, a UBC student, is going to Uganda to volunteer for The Aids Support Organization (TASO), an indigenous HIV/AIDS organization, for three months. If you feel like helping out in any way, check out http://juliesou-uganda.weebly.com/index.html for more information (: Thank you!
